Description

Careers Made Possible at Brian Perry Civil
Ready to take the next step in your career? Join a team that thrives on collaboration and bold thinking, delivering complex civil projects that shape communities and protect environments. Here, your ideas matter, your growth is supported, and your work leaves a lasting impact.

About the Role

Brian Perry Civil has built a strong reputation across New Zealand delivering complex underground infrastructure work. We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our team, focused on the technical delivery of pipeline renewals projects. You will sit between the project manager and the crews on the ground, turning plans into action and keeping your team working safely, efficiently and to specification.

This is a hands-on engineering role where your planning, problem-solving and people skills will be tested daily. You will spend time on site and behind a desk, coordinating resources, managing subcontractors and making sure every work pack is closed out properly.

  • Plan and programme pipeline renewals work across 3 to 12 month horizons, coordinating crews, plant and subcontractors to keep projects on track
  • Develop method statements, work packs and JSEAs with supervisors, and manage day-to-day delivery against programme milestones
  • Lead a team, coaching technical skills, running toolbox talks and setting clear performance expectations
  • Monitor costs, track production against S-curves and contribute to monthly reporting with accurate forecasts
  • Manage subcontractor activities including safety compliance, variation instructions and performance against scope
  • Ensure quality records are completed to handover standard and all work meets resource consent and contractual requirements

What You Will Bring to the Role

  • A tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline
  • At least five years of experience in civil construction, with direct involvement in pipeline renewals or underground infrastructure projects
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, sequencing and the practical realities of working in live network environments
  • Experience supervising site teams and subcontractors, with the confidence to lead morning briefings, manage performance and resolve issues on the ground
  • Good commercial awareness, including the ability to track costs, identify risks early and contribute meaningfully to cost-to-complete forecasts
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple moving parts and keep stakeholders informed without being prompted
