The Area Operations Manager is a people leadership role where you’ll guide and support operations across 6 plants in the Canterbury Metro region.

Reporting to the Head of South, you’ll lead 8 direct reports and around 60 indirect team members, creating an environment where people feel supported, connected, and empowered to perform at their best.

With responsibility for the operational P&L, you’ll balance performance and care—ensuring safe, consistent, and high-quality outcomes across the region. This role is focused on operational excellence and leadership, with no sales accountability.

What you’ll be doing


  • Leading, coaching, and developing leaders and teams across multiple sites
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and high-trust environment where people thrive
  • Setting clear direction and aligning teams to shared goals and priorities
  • Supporting strong operational performance, quality, and delivery outcomes
  • Overseeing financial performance, including operational P&L and cost management
  • Building strong relationships across internal teams and with customers
  • Leading change with empathy, clarity, and consistency
  • Embedding a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and wellbeing

What you’ll bring


  • Experience leading multi-site operational teams in manufacturing, logistics, or distribution
  • Tertiary qualification in similar advantageous 
  • A collaborative and empowering leadership style that builds capability in others
  • Experience managing financial performance, including operational P&L
  • The ability to bring clarity, alignment, and calm decision-making in a dynamic environment
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on listening, connection, and trust
  • A genuine commitment to safety, wellbeing, and positive team culture
