Description

Higgins is looking for a motivated Depot / Asphalt Plant Manager to lead our Taupō operations. This is a standout opportunity for an experienced operational leader or a high potential professional ready for their next leadership step, with full ownership of a depot, an asphalt plant, and a close knit team.

Reporting to the Waikato Surfacing Manager, you’ll have real autonomy to run the operation – balancing people leadership, safety, production, and commercial performance – while being supported by a wider regional leadership team.

While the role has a strong asphalt plant and depot focus, we’re also open to candidates with broader experience across surfacing, production, manufacturing, technical, or project delivery who are ready to step into a senior operational leadership role.

What you’ll be doing
  • Leading day to day asphalt plant and depot operations
  • Ensuring production, quality, and delivery targets are consistently met
  • Managing people performance, capability development, and engagement
  • Driving strong health, safety, and environmental outcomes
  • Overseeing quality control systems and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Managing operational and commercial performance, including cost control and P&L accountability
  • Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, and suppliers
  • Supporting business growth and adapting to changing commercial conditions

What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a well rounded operational leader – or someone ready to step into one – who combines technical credibility with strong people skills. Ideally you'll have:
  • Experience in asphalt manufacturing, surfacing, roading, or civil construction
  • Exposure to production environments, quality systems, and operational planning
  • Proven people leadership experience, or clear readiness to take the next step into leading a team
  • Commercial awareness, with experience or exposure to budgets, cost control, and business performance
  • A strong commitment to health and safety
  • Practical problem solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Confident communication and relationship building skills
  • Relevant industry qualifications (desirable, not essential)

Come join the Green Team:
  • At Higgins, our people are at the heart of what we do. In return for your skills, we offer:
  • A competitive salary package
  • KiwiSaver employer contribution matched up to 4%
  • In house technical training and leadership development programmes
  • Access to educational funds for you and your children
  • Funding for school holiday programmes and tutoring
  • Discounts with Southern Cross, ANZ, Z Energy, PlaceMakers, Mico, and Samsung
