Description

We are looking for an Assistant Laboratory Technician to join our experienced civil engineering laboratory team in the beautiful Hawkes Bay region.
The Napier testing laboratory is responsible for ensuring Higgins products such as bitumen, aggregates, soils, and hot mix asphalt are tested as part of our manufacturing and construction activities. This role will include both field and laboratory-based sampling and testing of construction materials.

As an Assistant Laboratory Technician, you will provide testing and technical support services for projects throughout the Central North Island area. You will ensure the integrity of the construction materials used by operational teams by testing products such as bitumen, asphalt, construction aggregates, and soils to ensure quality, industry standards and customer specifications are being met.


What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Full NZ Class 1 driver's licence or overseas equivalent
  • Nuclear densometer experience would be advantageous
  • Physically fit with ability to comfortably lift 20kgs
  • A strong attention to detail with solid MS Excel & Word skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work at night and during weekends when required
  • We welcome applications from school or university leavers looking to start their career 
  • Tertiary Diploma or equivalent in Construction or Science related field is beneficial but not essential
  • A background in civil construction or laboratory testing is advantageous but not essential
