Description

Like You, We’re Proudly Building New Zealand! It’s something we are proud to have been a trusted part of, for over 90 years and counting. Every day, passionate and dedicated people come together as an industry to help build healthy, sustainable homes, creating a better future for all New Zealanders.  GIB® Plasterboard is the number one choice by customers in New Zealand. When you start with us, you will learn that we are all brought together by the passion we have for putting the customer at the heart of everything we do.

If you’re a recent engineering graduate or have 1–2 years’ experience under your belt and you’re hungry to learn, build real capability, and make a visible impact—this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. At Winstone Wallboards, our engineers work at the heart of New Zealand’s only plasterboard manufacturing operation, improving processes that keep the country building. This is a hands-on, high-learning-curve role where you’ll grow fast, supported by experienced engineers and manufacturing leaders who genuinely want to see you succeed.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Continuous Process Improvement Engineer, based at our Christchurch site, you’ll apply your engineering skills to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and product quality across our manufacturing operations. You’ll be supported to develop capability across areas such as:
  • Health, Safety & Environment - Designing and implementing plant improvements with safety front of mind. Supporting risk assessments, audits, and safe systems of work. Helping ensure environmental compliance and best-practice manufacturing.
  • Continuous Process Improvement - Analysing production data (uptime, recoveries, line speeds) to identify improvement opportunities. Supporting and leading small-scale capital and continuous improvement projects. Developing your expertise in process control and automation systems. Supporting plant trials, product development, and formulation changes.
  • Teamwork & Systems - Working closely with manufacturing teams to solve real operational problems. Helping develop SOPs, engineering standards, and best-practice processes.

ABOUT YOU:
We’re more interested in potential and mindset than ticking every box. You’ll likely have:
  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Production, or Process Engineering
  • 0–2 years’ experience in manufacturing, processing, or industrial environments (or strong practical exposure during study)
  • A genuine interest in how things work and how to make them better
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to learn fast

WHY THIS ROLE?
  • Steep learning curve with real responsibility early on
  • Exposure to large-scale manufacturing and automation
  • Support from experienced engineers and a structured development pathway
  • A business that invests in improvement—not just talks about it
  • Strong career progression opportunities within Fletcher Building

Ready to build something meaningful? If you’re looking for a role where you’ll learn fast, be challenged, and make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and start building your engineering career with Winstone Wallboards.
