Description

Lead the Waikato District Council Northern Road Maintenance and Renewals Contract, a $25M-$26M annual programme managing a 1,200km network across North Waikato.

With the contract approaching its second year of a potential 10-year term, this is a rare opportunity to lead a well-established operation while helping shape its future direction. You'll work closely with a collaborative client and experienced operational team to drive performance across the network.

Covering communities across Tuakau, Pokeno, Huntly and Te Kauwhata, the programme includes day-to-day road maintenance, unsealed road grading, emergency response and network renewals. Working alongside a collaborative client and experienced operational team, you'll provide commercial, strategic and governance leadership to deliver strong outcomes for the network, the client and local communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the overall delivery and performance of the maintenance contract, ensuring contractual obligations, service levels and commercial targets are achieved
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Waikato District Council, stakeholders, subcontractors and wider project partners
  • Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, risk management, variations and contract profitability
  • Provide leadership and direction to Operations, Renewals and support teams, ensuring alignment across programmes and priorities
  • Drive governance, reporting and decision-making processes, identifying risks, opportunities and improvement initiatives
  • Champion safety, quality and customer outcomes across all maintenance and renewals activities

What You'll Bring to the Role 
  • Extensive experience leading large roading maintenance contracts with full commercial accountability
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Asset Management or a related discipline, with project management or business qualifications advantageous
  • Strong understanding of contract management frameworks, asset management principles and performance-based maintenance contracts
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, variations, claims and commercial risk while delivering profitable outcomes
  • Experience building productive relationships with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams
  • A collaborative leadership style with strong communication, negotiation and decision-making skills
