Description

We are looking for an experienced Estimator to join the Higgins team based in Hamilton. You’ll be involved in bidding and tender preparation for the Waikato region, working on civil construction projects valued up to $20 million.

As an Estimator, you will manage tender and pricing submissions from start to finish, working closely with operations, suppliers, and clients. This is a hands-on role in focused on producing clear, accurate pricing, identifying risk early, and supporting smooth project handovers. It suits someone who enjoys detail, structure and contributing to well prepared project delivery.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Preparing accurate tenders, estimates, budgets, and pricing plans to agreed timeframes 
  • Reviewing tender documentation to understand scope, risk, and commercial requirements 
  • Completing take-offs and pricing across labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors 
  • Sourcing and negotiating supplier and subcontractor pricing, including reviewing tags and assumptions 
  • Maintaining tender records, pricing data, and estimating documentation 
  • Supporting handover to operational teams following tender awards

What You’ll Bring to the Role
  • 2 to 3 years’ estimating experience within civil construction 
  • Experience working on civil construction and or roading tenders and projects 
  • Hands-on involvement in tender and bid preparation, including pricing and documentation 
  • Experience using CCS Candy, Benchmark, and Microsoft Project or similar systems 
  • A practical, commercially aware approach to pricing and problem solving 
  • Strong organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple tenders at once 
  • Technical qualifications are preferred but not essential 
  • Experience engaging with clients to explain bids and address queries 
  • Working knowledge of NZS 3910:2013 and standard construction contracts
