About the role:
We’re looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Support Office Finance team in Penrose. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically strong accountant who enjoys tax, financial control, and continuous improvement within a large, complex business.

You'll play a key role in delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial and tax outcomes for PlaceMakers. With a strong focus on GST, FBT, and income tax, you’ll also support the integrity of month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and audit readiness.

You’ll collaborate closely with internal finance teams, branch stakeholders, and external auditors, contributing to strong financial controls and ongoing process improvements.

Responsibilities include: 
  • Prepare and support GST, FBT, and Income Tax compliance, including calculations, reconciliations, and filings 
  • Complete month-end processes, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and reporting packs 
  • Prepare and maintain high-quality working papers to support audit, tax, and statutory reporting 
  • Support reporting to Fletcher Building Group Corporate Finance, including minority interest reporting 
  • Assist with statutory accounts, insurance renewals, and sales rebate accounting 
  • Participate in internal and external audit processes 
  • Identify and implement process and system improvements to enhance efficiency and control 
  • Build strong relationships across branch accounting, FP&A, corporate finance, and the wider business

This is full time permanent role, offering 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday, based full time from our Support office in Penrose. 

About you:
  • CA/CPA qualified or be close to achieving it  
  • Strong, current NZ taxation experience (GST, FBT, Income Tax)
  • Experience working in a professional services firm in Business Advisory or Tax, or large corporate environment 
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (SAP, JDE, or similar)
  • Demonstrates confident communication at a senior and stakeholder-facing level
  • Naturally curious with strong problem-solving ability, exceptional attention to detail, and a focus on delivering practical solutions
