Description

The Civil–Concrete team at Higgins Wellington is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Foreperson to lead from the front. If you thrive on coordinating crews, driving performance, and delivering high quality civil construction projects, this is a great opportunity to take ownership of site delivery and make a real impact.

As a Foreperson, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of civil and concrete works, leading crews, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You’ll work closely with Supervisors, Engineers, and stakeholders to keep projects on track and crews set up for success.

What you’ll be doing
  • Planning, coordinating, and delivering daily civil and concrete construction activities for your crew 
  • Experience with a kerb machine (extruded and cast in-stiu) is preferable/ideal.
  • Developing short-term work plans and sequencing tasks to meet programme requirements 
  • Managing labour, plant, and materials to maintain productivity and workflow 
  • Leading, supervising, and supporting operators and labourers on site 
  • Providing coaching, mentoring, and clear direction to develop crew capability 
  • Driving a strong health, safety, and environmental culture through visible leadership 
  • Running pre-starts, toolbox talks, and ensuring site controls are in place
  • Monitoring quality and ensuring works are delivered to drawings, specifications, and ITPs 
  • Identifying risks, resolving site issues, and escalating where needed
  • Coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders on site 
  • Ensuring plant and equipment is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose
  • Maintaining accurate site documentation and QA records 

What you’ll bring
  • Proven experience in civil construction, including supervising crews and site activities 
  • Strong knowledge of civil and concrete works, including earthworks, drainage, pavements, and finishing 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team 
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and problem-solving ability
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and quality outcomes
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications 
  • Class 1 Licence (minimum) with WTR endorsements preferred
  • Site Safe Passport and First Aid (required)
  • STMS / TTM or relevant civil qualifications (desirable)
