Description

Fletcher Building is entering a new phase, with a refreshed strategy, strong executive and board alignment, and a recently established, world-class ESG framework now in place.

We’re looking for a Group ESG Lead to take this foundation and drive the next level of maturity, with a sharper focus on governance, disclosures, and investor expectations as well as facilitating and supporting business maturity and growth.

Why this role matters

This position stands apart from conventional sustainability roles. At the Group level, your core responsibilities centre on measuring, governing, and communicating ESG performance, ensuring that investor and Board requirements are met, and establishing consistent assurance across a diverse portfolio of businesses. You will work across more than twenty business units to provide visibility, structure, and confidence in ESG performance at the highest levels of the organisation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead Group-wide ESG assurance, including double materiality assessments and annual reviews
  • Maintain the master ESG register and oversee BU performance tracking
  • Drive consistency in ESG metrics, tools, frameworks and standards
  • Partner with finance and reporting teams to ensure clear, credible ESG data and dashboards
  • Lead and support key disclosures including climate related disclosures and modern slavery reporting
  • Translate ESG performance into clear, compelling outputs for board, executive and external stakeholders
  • Monitor ESG-related legislation and regulatory change
  • Coach and uplift ESG capability across divisions and leadership teams

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for a strategic, commercially aware ESG leader — not a pure technical specialist.

You’ll likely bring:

  • Experience in ESG, sustainability, investor relations, finance or governance
  • Strong exposure to disclosures and reporting in a listed or large corporate environment
  • Confidence working at Executive / Board level
  • Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority across complex organisations
  • Strong written capability — able to produce high-quality reports, papers and disclosures
  • A balanced mindset — commercially pragmatic, not purely advocacy-driven

Experience in areas such as climate, energy, or modern slavery reporting will be highly regarded.

Why Fletcher Building?

This is a rare opportunity to step into a role where you'll be optimising an established, board-approved ESG framework rather than building one from the ground up. You’ll have the chance to work across a diverse, multi-industry portfolio in an environment where ESG is highly visible and directly engages investors. In this position, you’ll play a pivotal role shaping ESG practices within a large listed organisation, contributing to a company that is entering an exciting new phase of growth and stability. Additionally, you’ll be joining a team renowned for its strong safety culture, commitment to high standards, and supportive leadership.
