The Role

This role is a divisional leadership role reporting to our Chief Executive but also has an indirect reporting line to the Fletcher Building Chief H&S Officer. They will oversee all the EHS professionals and specialists over our entire division - Residential, Development and Group Property. The role is about bringing leadership and a strategic vision together for our business, but most importantly initiating and driving a step change on our EHS performance through innovative thinking and effective business engagement. One key output in this role is supporting the Chief H&S Officer in the development, execution and delivery of an effective EHS Management Programme (PROTECT & Radar).  If you have worked with Dupont processes and are familiar with their format, it would be highly regarded.

About You

It is likely that you will have a strong background in EHS, but as this role is all about driving change within our organisation, we would also consider someone that can demonstrate a strong track record of leading & implementing change successfully and succinctly within an organisation.  Other qualifications, skills & experience we are looking for are:
  • Deep understanding and experience of EHS within large / complex organisation(s)
  • Will have had 8 – 10 years (minimum) EHS experience
  • Relevant graduate degree (preferably postgraduate degree) in safety or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of EHS best practice
  • Proven experience in working with internal stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes
  • Strong priorities management and problem-solving capability
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills, seen as engaging and able to build trust and rapport with diverse range of stakeholders
  • Highly effective influencing and persuasion skills at all levels within organisations
  • Demonstrated capability for problem solving, decision making, sound judgment, assertiveness
  • Proven ability to manage workload to meet timescales
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Preferably trained in ICAM (or similar a similar investigation process)

A lot of the role does require you to provide technical expertise on EHS, but we also have incredibly experienced and passionate EHS professionals working within the division, that can also provide that back up should you need a sounding board. Other qualities that are important to this role are your ability to work with senior internal stakeholders, influence at a senior level, excellent problem solving, sound judgement and communication skills.
