Description

For more than 150 years, Winstone Aggregates, New Zealand's largest supplier of aggregates, has helped shape New Zealand’s infrastructure and communities.

As part of Fletcher Building’s Heavy Building Materials division, the business has the scale, capability and responsibility to deliver strong commercial outcomes while continuing to invest in sustainability, customers and people.

At a pivotal stage in its growth journey, Winstone Aggregates is seeking a Head of Finance & Commercial to partner with the General Manager and senior leadership team in shaping strategy, lifting performance and enabling the next phase of growth.

This is a senior leadership role for a commercially astute finance leader who brings judgement, clarity and influence on complex decisions.

The role has a clear strategic mandate: to connect financial performance, operational reality and market opportunity, then translate that insight into confident commercial decisions that lift business performance.

At its core, this role is about trusted partnership: listening carefully, challenging constructively and helping leaders make decisions that are commercially sound, clearly understood and well owned.

Alongside this, there is an important leadership dimension. You will lead a capable commercial and finance team, creating an environment where people feel supported to grow, contribute and do meaningful work. Building trust, strengthening capability and fostering a culture of shared accountability will be as important as any technical outcome.

The role will have a broad commercial remit, including:

  • Partnering with the General Manager and senior leaders to shape strategy, pricing architecture, investment priorities and commercial decision-making
  • Bringing insight and structure to planning, budgeting and forecasting cycles
  • Supporting growth through a focus on pricing strategy, organic opportunities and considered M&A activity
  • Creating clear, compelling commercial narratives that explain performance, risk and opportunity
  • Strengthening financial discipline, governance and decision-making frameworks
  • Leading and developing a collaborative, high-performing commercial team
  • Driving the commercial disciplines, insight and leadership required to deliver ambitious EBIT growth and sustainable long-term performance

You will bring commercial depth, leadership maturity and the confidence to influence across a complex operating business. You may already be operating at senior leadership level, or be ready for a broader enterprise role that strengthens your pathway toward general management or CFO

Your experience may include:

  • Senior leadership experience within a complex, fast-moving business environment
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to guide strategy and performance
  • Credibility with executives and senior operators, with the ability to build trust, challenge thinking and influence decisions without relying on authority
  • A natural ability to explain the “why” — translating complexity into clear, relatable insight
  • Experience across strategy, financial planning, controls and business performance
  • An adaptable and proactive approach, with the ability to move thoughtfully but at pace
  • A leadership style that builds trust, lifts capability and creates a high-accountability culture across both finance and the wider business

In return, this role offers the opportunity to help shape a business with real scale, operational complexity and a direct role in New Zealand’s future infrastructure.

You will be supported by an experienced leadership team and a broader group that values collaboration, safety and continuous improvement.

This is a role for a finance leader who brings perspective, commercial courage and the motivation to shape outcomes that will last well beyond the immediate horizon.

Research shows that females and minority groups don’t apply for roles unless they match 100% the job description.

We are proud of your diversity and see it as one of the things that make us stronger. We welcome your individuality and encourage you to bring your true self to work, so if this role is of interest but you feel you don’t fit it, we would still love you to apply.
