Fletcher Wood Products is a newly established business within the Building Products division of Fletcher Building. The business represents Fletcher Building’s re-entry into the wood sector which is supported by strong macro trends and contributes to New Zealand’s goal of a low-carbon circular economy. Fletcher Wood Products has a renewable fuels business and a new wood panel production plant in Taupo. The new wood panel plant will utilize innovative technology to produce cost competitive, high-quality products that have diverse applications.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our team on a 12-month contract at our wood panel production plant in Taupo. As a Health & Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of our health, safety, and wellbeing strategies. You’ll work closely with site teams to ensure compliance with legislation, promote safe work practices, and foster a proactive safety culture.
In addition to this you will:
- Implement and monitor health, safety and wellness policies, standards, procedures and program and ensure these are kept up to date following changes to relevant legislation
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are followed through.
- Deliver safety inductions, training, and toolbox talks.
- Process safety, including permit-to-work and lock out Tag Out (LOTO)
- Mange the application of Hazard and Risk Management systems.
- Support and develop safety places and safety operating procedures.
About You
To be successful in this role you will be a results-driven team player with a passion for safety and a focus on contributing to continuous improvement.
In addition to this you will have:
- At least 3-5 years’ experience within a manufacturing, timber or industrial environment is advantageous.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout procedures, and equipment isolation in a dry commissioning environment.
- Thorough understanding of NZ health and safety legislation.
- A strong communicator with a results-driven mindset and the ability to build effective relationships and engage confidently across all levels of the organization, including with external contractors.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work with a high degree of autonomy.
- NZ Certificate in Workplace Health & Safety (level 4) /NZISM Practitioner qualification or equivalent.
- Certified ICAM Lead Investigator with qualifications in workplace training and assessment (Cert IV) and a current First Aid Certificate advantageous.
