The Higgins Green Team have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Technician to join the team in East Tamaki. 

This isn’t your typical Laboratory Technician role! We’re looking for someone who’s not afraid to get their hands dirty and help on the frontline when needed. In this physically active role, you’ll be on the move, sampling stockpiles from Asphalt Plants, quarries, and Asphalt materials. A typical day could have you mixing up to 40kg of aggregate with binders or handling compacting blocks — our moulds weighing 8-10kg with an additional 5-7kg of Asphalt on top. Physical fitness is a must, as this role can be labour-intensive and fast-paced.

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Prior laboratory experience is essential, preferably in the civil engineering field or a similar environment
  • Ideally you will have a Tertiary Diploma or equivalent in Construction or Science related field 
  • Good computer skills including word-processing and spreadsheet skills
  • A valid, clean, and current Class 1 driver’s license 
  • Ability to follow procedures and processes
  • Have immaculate attention to detail
  • A willing can do attitude
  • Some travel to our plant in Silverdale may be required on occasion 
  • Ability to work at night and during weekends when required
