Description

At Higgins, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We're looking for an experienced Learning & Development Manager to lead our learning strategy and help ensure our people have the skills, knowledge, and leadership capability needed to support the future of our business.

Reporting to the Head of People & Performance, you'll work closely with leaders across Higgins to identify capability needs, design practical development solutions, and create clear pathways for growth. This is a strategic role with the opportunity to influence how learning and development is approached across a diverse, national workforce.

What you'll be doing
  • Developing and delivering Higgins' Learning & Development Strategy.
  • Building learning pathways, capability frameworks, and career development programmes.
  • Designing and embedding leadership development initiatives for leaders at all levels.
  • Partnering with operational and business leaders to identify current and future capability needs.
  • Leading projects focused on workforce development, career pathways, and competency frameworks.
  • Working with subject matter experts to create engaging and practical learning solutions.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve learning systems, tools, and processes.
  • Measuring programme effectiveness and using insights to continuously improve outcomes.

What we're looking for
You'll be an experienced Learning & Development professional who understands how to translate business needs into practical learning and capability solutions. You know how to influence stakeholders, build credibility with leaders, and create initiatives that deliver real value to both employees and the business.

You're comfortable operating at both a strategic and hands-on level, whether that's developing a capability framework, facilitating a workshop, coaching a leader, or driving the implementation of a new programme.

You'll bring:
  • Significant experience in Learning & Development, Organisational Development, Talent Development, or a related field.
  • Proven success developing and implementing learning strategies aligned to business objectives.
  • Experience designing leadership development programmes, competency frameworks, and career pathways.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • Experience leading change and embedding new learning initiatives and ways of working.
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong programme and project management capability.
  • Experience using data and insights to evaluate learning effectiveness and inform decision-making.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Adult Learning, Human Resources, Organisational Development, Instructional Design, or a related discipline.
Most importantly, you'll be passionate about helping people grow and motivated by the opportunity to strengthen capability across the business.

Why Higgins?
This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping how learning and development is delivered across one of New Zealand's leading infrastructure businesses.

You'll work alongside experienced leaders, contribute to meaningful business initiatives, and help create opportunities for our people to develop and succeed. In return, you'll join a supportive and down-to-earth team and have access to the scale, resources, and career opportunities that come with being part of the wider Fletcher Construction group.

If you're looking for a role where you can influence strategy, build capability, and make a genuine difference to people's careers, we'd love to hear from you.

We are actively looking to fill this role and encourage your early application. Applications are reviewed regularly, and we reserve the right to remove the advertisement before the advertised closing date.

Research shows that females and minority groups don’t always apply for roles unless they match 100% of the requirements. So, if this role is of interest but you feel you don’t quite fit, we encourage you to apply anyway. We are enriched by many nationalities, languages, religions, customs, and lifestyles. We are proud of our diversity and see it as one of the things that make us better together.
