Description

About us
Employing over 14,900 people in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific, Fletcher Building is a significant employer, manufacturer, home builder and partner on major construction and infrastructure projects. Dual listed on the NZX and ASX, Fletcher Building is a values-based company that is committed to developing the capability of its people.

About the role
An exciting opportunity for an experienced commercial lawyer to join Fletcher Building’s in-house legal team by stepping up into your first or second Senior Legal Counsel role. You will be an integral part of the legal team that primarily supports the Concrete Division of Fletcher Building, but you will also have functional responsibilities across the full range of Fletcher Building’s businesses. You will work closely with the General Counsel and other members of the Legal team on legal matters across a broad range of commercial and corporate issues.

Operating as a trusted advisor, you’ll develop close relationships with operational and management teams providing timely, high-quality, pragmatic and relevant legal advice. This in an impactful role that is strongly "hands on", and you’ll take pride in delivering value beyond traditional legal advice; gaining a deeper understanding of business drivers and contributing to the strategies and plans of the Concrete Division in a collaborative way.  The right candidate can expect to be asked to join the Senior Leadership Team for the Concrete Division.

A diverse and stimulating range of general and commercial legal work is on offer, including general corporate and commercial matters, HSE, procurement, marketing, licensing & distribution, information technology, disputes, competition law, IP, privacy, sustainability and innovation matters.

About you
You must be a qualified lawyer with a current NZ practising certificate. This will be coupled with 5 -10 years’ post-admission experience in commercially focussed law, gained in a reputable law firm or in a similar in-house role.   You will have strong knowledge of contract and commercial law, and the ability to provide strategic, solutions-focussed legal advice.  Whilst it is not expected that you have an in-depth knowledge of all ‘commercial’ legal fields, you should have a desire to upskill. We will help you develop and hone your skills.

Your ability to draft and negotiate contracts and other legal documents, manage legal risk and to resolve issues pragmatically, will see you succeed in this role.  You will also need to be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders, contribute to a team-based culture and help to lead our teams to the desired outcomes. You will also be competent managing your busy workload and competing priorities, operating effectively under pressure. Most of all, you'll be passionate about getting stuck in and delivering results.

This is a permanent role.  Our team-based culture is important to us, but we are flexible in terms of how we deliver on this and are open to discussing flexible hours and hybrid working models.

Nex steps
If you’ve been looking for a Senior Legal Counsel role that offers unlimited career growth opportunities, both now and into the future, this one is it! You'll be joining a highly talented, highly driven legal team who are passionate about their work, they collaborate to deliver, and they respect and value each other’s contributions.
