Maintenance Engineer - Higgins

About the Role
As a Maintenance Engineer, you’ll play a key role in planning, coordinating and delivering maintenance works safely, efficiently and to specification. You’ll support project performance, provide technical expertise, and ensure maintenance activities meet contract, quality and customer expectations.
You’ll also help drive operational improvements, maintain high-quality data in ADM/AWM, and work closely with NZTA, IDC teams, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the maintenance programme
  • Identify faults and defects on the network and prioritise maintenance responses
  • Ensure maintenance work is accurately programmed and claimed in ADM
  • Support pricing for variations, tenders and funding requests
  • Maintain strong understanding of NZTA maintenance work categories and business case processes
  • Coordinate inspections, testing and documentation to meet ITP and contract requirements
  • Track progress against programme and escalate delays
  • Use digital tools (ArcGIS, Power BI, GIS layers) to support planning and reporting
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, NZTA, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Promote a strong safety, quality and environmental culture
  • Support incident response, including after-hours or rostered duties

What You’ll Bring
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience delivering civil/roading works
  • Familiarity with ITPs, JSEAs and document control
  • Experience using ADM/RAMM and analysing network condition data
  • Understanding of NZTA maintenance work categories and annual plan processes
  • Strong digital competency (GIS, Power BI, optimisation tools)
  • Commercial acumen and cost coding knowledge
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong HSEQ mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Ability to identify operational improvements and drive efficiencies
