Description
At Golden Bay Cement, we’re proud to be New Zealand’s only cement manufacturing plant, playing a key role in building the places Kiwis live, work and connect.
We’re looking for a Maintenance Reliability Support professional who enjoys working with others, cares deeply about safety, and wants to have a real impact on the reliability and performance of our Portland plant.
About the opportunity
Based at our Portland manufacturing site, you’ll provide specialised technical support across both mechanical and electrical maintenance. You’ll work closely with our Mechanical and Electrical Team Leaders, Maintenance Manager and wider Engineering team, helping to drive reliability‑centred maintenance in a complex, 24/7 production environment.
You will also provide steady relief leadership for the Maintenance Team Leaders during absences or periods of high demand, supporting continuity for our people and our plant, including two permanent direct reports (Lubrication and Condition Monitoring).
In this role, you will:
- Support planning and execution of routine, preventative, predictive and shutdown maintenance, working in partnership with production to minimise disruption and downtime.
- Help respond to and resolve equipment failures, contributing to root cause analysis and risk‑based, proactive maintenance strategies that reduce repeat issues.
- Provide collaborative leadership to your team, ensuring clear communication, safe work practices and a positive, inclusive culture.
- Work closely with Process Engineers, Production, and Reliability Engineers to continuously improve maintenance tactics, shutdown support, BOM accuracy and task lists.
- Champion accurate use of the maintenance management system (MEX), supporting data quality, reporting and informed decision‑making.
- Maintain and uplift maintenance policies, standards and procedures so they remain current and aligned with Golden Bay Cement and Fletcher Building requirements.
- Support workforce development through targeted induction, on‑the‑job coaching and training, ensuring people feel confident and well‑equipped to do their work safely.
You’re someone who combines strong technical capability with a considerate, team‑focused approach. You will likely have:
- A mechanical or electrical trade qualification with substantial experience (around 8 years) in heavy industrial or similar environments.
- Proven ability to trouble‑shoot and diagnose equipment faults, using structured fault‑finding methods and supporting RCFA activities.
- Understanding of lubrication management and condition monitoring tactics.
- Experience with CMMS to manage work orders, spares and purchasing to priority.
- Confidence planning and coordinating workloads for day‑to‑day, weekend and shutdown maintenance.
- A collaborative leadership style – you set clear expectations, listen carefully, and bring people with you to achieve shared goals.
- Strong judgement under pressure, with the ability to assess situations, draw sound conclusions and recommend practical, safe solutions.
- Commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and living our values every day.
At Golden Bay Cement, you’ll be part of a trusted, New Zealand‑made brand that is actively investing in more sustainable, lower‑carbon concrete solutions for the future.
You can expect:
- A supportive, down‑to‑earth team culture where safety and people come first.
- The opportunity to work with specialist plant and equipment at New Zealand’s only cement manufacturing facility, contributing directly to critical national infrastructure.
- Genuine scope to grow your leadership and technical expertise, supported by Fletcher Building’s wider learning and development pathways.
- The stability and benefits that come from being part of the Fletcher Building group.
