Description

About Laminex Australia
We’ve been a part of the iconic Australian design landscape for over 90 years. Only a few short years after Australians fell in love with Vegemite, families were spreading their toast in kitchens and on tables made by us. We’ve come a long way.

Today, you’ll see Laminex on surfaces everywhere you look - be it hospitals, shopping centres, restaurants, or your home. We manufacture and procure a broad range of products for commercial and residential use such as laminate, engineered stone, and veneers so that all Australians can live in beautiful, practical spaces.

Where your story begins
We are seeking a qualified and safety-focused Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Laminex manufacturing plant near Dardanup in the southwest of Western Australia. This site offers a collaborative workplace culture and a wide range of industrial manufacturing systems, making it an ideal environment for a mechanical engineering professional looking to further their career and development.

The role you’ll play
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of critical site infrastructure systems including compressed air, fire protection systems, cranes, and associated mechanical services. You will ensure statutory compliance, develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules, and provide technical support and engineering expertise across safety design and change management processes.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to support operational improvements and ensure engineering activities align with site safety policies and legislative requirements.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Dardanup, Monday to Friday. While the salary and benefits are competitive, the position is ideally suited to early-career engineers (3 years' + professional experience) or those seeking a better work-life balance in a family-friendly environment, where you’ll be home every night.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Oversee inspection and maintenance of site services (e.g. compressed air, fire protection, cranes) in compliance with Australian Standards and statutory requirements.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules and inspection routines.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise to support safe design and operational improvements.
  • Lead or support hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Support the Management of Change (MoC) process for mechanical and site service modifications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including P&IDs, process flows, and mechanical drawings using AutoCAD.

What you’ll need to succeed:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (recognised by Engineers Australia).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for mechanical and process drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering, maintenance, or project management.
  • Strong understanding of Australian Standards and statutory requirements for mechanical systems.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance systems and CMMS platforms (e.g. MEX) is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills

Why join us?
  • 26 weeks of full-pay parental leave (or 52 weeks at half pay), with flexible return-to-work options.
  • Career development opportunities in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
  • A strong focus on safety, well-being, and continuous improvement.
  • Extensive discounts on all Fletcher Building products (think cheap home renovations)!

If you're a resilient and adaptable professional ready to play a critical role in our operations, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and become part of our story of Australian manufacturing excellence.

Laminex is committed to acknowledging every application as part of our Circle Back Initiative.
