Description

The Civil–Concrete team at Higgins Wellington is growing, and we’re looking for a skilled Operator to join our civil construction and road building team. This role is primarily focused on supporting our civil construction and road building works. If you enjoy working with machinery, being part of a tight-knit crew, and contributing to meaningful infrastructure projects, this is a great opportunity to grow your career. In this role, you’ll safely and efficiently operate plant and equipment while supporting a range of civil and concrete works. You’ll work closely with Forepersons, Leading Hands, and team members to deliver high-quality outcomes across a variety of projects.

What you’ll be doing
  • Operating construction plant and equipment safely and efficiently under direction 
  • Carrying out civil and concrete works including excavation support, backfilling, spreading, trimming, loading, compacting, and clean-up activities 
  • Performing general labouring tasks when required to support the team 
  • Completing daily pre-start checks and basic maintenance on plant and equipment 
  • Following Work Plans, JSEA’s, specifications, and Supervisor instructions to deliver quality work 
  • Supporting site set-up and pack-down, including traffic controls and site protection
  • Monitoring plant performance and reporting faults or issues promptly 
  • Maintaining accurate logbooks, timesheets, and records 
  • Working safely around mobile plant, traffic, and other site hazards 
  • Supporting environmental controls, spill response, and site housekeeping
  • Communicating effectively with spotters, crew members, and supervisors


What you’ll bring
  • Experience operating a grader for Maintenance and Final Trim works.
  • Experience operating other machinery is a bonus, excavators, rollers, mid-mounts, loaders, trucks etc 
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental practices
  • Ability to perform general labouring tasks and work as part of a team 
  • Understanding of construction site processes and requirements
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions
  • Class 1 Driver Licence (required) 
  • Class 2 or 4 Licence and WTR endorsements (desirable)
