Planned Maintenance Manager - Wellington

Higgins is seeking an experienced Planned Maintenance Manager to lead the delivery of road maintenance projects across the Wellington region. This is a key leadership role responsible for contract performance, client relationships, commercial management, and ensuring excellence in safety, quality, and environmental outcomes.

About the Role

As the Planned Maintenance Manager, you will oversee the planning, resourcing, and delivery of planned maintenance works for Wellington City Council. You’ll work closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
This role requires strong leadership, commercial awareness, and the ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead planned maintenance projects from tender through to completion
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Prepare competitive and high quality tender submissions
  • Ensure delivery to programme, budget, and quality expectations
  • Manage contract performance, forecasting, cost control, and monthly reporting
  • Oversee operational planning, resource allocation, and subcontractor performance
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation across the contract
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, environmental, and quality systems
  • Lead, coach, and develop contract teams to achieve high performance
  • Promote Higgins values and foster a collaborative, high trust team culture

What You’ll Bring
  • Proven experience in road maintenance, civil construction, or contract management
  • Strong commercial and financial management capability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to lead teams and build capability
  • Strong understanding of NZ construction standards, legislation, and H&S requirements
  • Ability to identify risks, solve problems, and make sound decisions
