Project Manager - Te Awa Kairangi

Higgins Wellington is looking for an experienced and driven Project Manager to lead the successful bidding and delivery of projects within the Te Awa Kairangi Project. This role is critical to ensuring high quality, safe and commercially successful outcomes while building strong relationships with clients, partners and internal teams.

About Te Awa Kairangi

This role supports delivery within the Te Awa Kairangi Alliance, a major project improving transport, walking and cycling connections around the SH2 Melling interchange and new rail station. The Alliance brings together Fletcher Construction, AECOM, NZTA, Taranaki Whanau and Ngāti Toa Rangatira to deliver this transformative project for the region.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Lead the bidding, planning and delivery of assigned projects, ensuring high quality, safe and efficient outcomes
  • Assist with tendering, pricing and methodology development, ensuring bids are accurate, competitive and well written
  • Build strong long-term relationships with clients, proactively identifying opportunities and representing Higgins professionally
  • Provide accurate reporting on financials, H&S, environmental performance, QA and cost to complete
  • Manage day to day project delivery, ensuring work meets contract specifications and is delivered to or better than plan
  • Work closely with supervisors, foremen and delivery teams to organise labour, plant, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Ensure all project administration is completed, including RFIs, variations and invoicing
  • Lead risk management activities, including tender reviews, cost build ups and mitigation planning
  • Ensure all health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements are met
  • Drive quality assurance processes, ensuring documentation is accurate, traceable and compliant
  • Manage subcontractors in collaboration with the Te Awa Kairangi procurement team
  • Support workforce planning by forecasting resourcing requirements
  • Challenge methodologies and productivity in a constructive way to improve outcomes
  • Manage project financial performance, ensuring margins are achieved or exceeded

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Engineering Diploma or Degree (essential)
  • Strong civil engineering background with several years’ experience delivering complex projects
  • Understanding of the Construction Contracts Act and practical application of NZS 3910
  • Proven ability to lead teams, coach others and build a positive, high performing culture
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in forecasting, cost tracking and financial reporting
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal teams
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and collaborate
  • High level of organisation, attention to detail and problem-solving capability
  • Commitment to safe work practices and a strong understanding of H&S requirements
  • MS Project or CANDY experience is desirable
