About the Role
 
Join the team delivering the Cook Strait Interislander Ferries – Wellington Port Infrastructure Early Works, a complex marine and port construction package.

This Senior Quantity Surveyor role is critical to the commercial success of a major project, with a strong focus on cost forecasting, reporting accuracy, and commercial leadership. You will take ownership of maintaining the project forecast at a senior level, ensuring alignment between site delivery, commercial outcomes, and financial reporting systems.

Working on the contractor side, you’ll partner closely with project and discipline teams to deliver robust monthly forecasts, variation management, and accurate commercial reporting, while providing guidance and oversight to the wider QS team.

  • Own and maintain the project cost forecast in RIB/CCS Candy, ensuring accuracy of EFC and integrity across all workstreams
  • Lead and contribute to the monthly forecasting process, consolidating inputs from discipline leads and project teams
  • Proactively manage budget upstream and downstream
  • Use ERP system (e.g. Oracle/SAP) to ensure accurate cost control, cost reporting and financial visibility
  • Prepare and submit monthly commercial and cost reports
  • Lead or support procurement and subcontract administration activities where required
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to the QS team, building capability in forecasting, reporting, and cost control

What You’ll Bring

You are a commercially astute Senior QS with deep experience managing budget, cost and forecasting on complex construction projects, who values teamwork, mutual respect, and professionalism.

  • Significant contractor‑side experience (typically 10+ years in a commercial/QS role), ideally within civil or infrastructure environments
  • Proven experience holding and managing a major project forecast at a senior level
  • Strong proficiency in cost forecasting tools and project control systems (e.g. Candy, SAP/Oracle)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage both upstream and downstream variations effectively
  • Experience coordinating inputs across multiple teams to produce accurate monthly forecasts and reports
  • Strong understanding of commercial reporting, cost control, and financial governance
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Leadership capability, with experience coaching and developing other QS team members
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to influence across project teams
  • A strong commitment to mutual respect – valuing others’ perspectives, fostering inclusive teamwork, and building trusted relationships across the project
