Description

Humes is a standalone business within Fletcher Building’s Building Products division, manufacturing concrete pipe and precast structures and supplying products for wastewater, potable water, stormwater, energy and telco, rural and environmental projects right across Aotearoa.

As our Credit Controller, you’ll be part of a supportive commercial team that partners closely with our branches and customers to keep cashflow healthy and projects on track.

Working closely with our Credit Manager, Sales, Distribution, Commercial and the Fletcher Building Credit Management & Debt Recovery team, you will:

  • Build warm, professional relationships with customers to encourage timely payments and open conversations
  • Proactively manage overdue debt in line with our Credit Policy, while supporting sales growth and customer experience
  • Monitor and follow up all outstanding accounts, resolving disputes in partnership with our sales and distribution teams
  • Regularly review customer credit limits and orders on hold to balance sales opportunities and credit risk
  • Complete due diligence for new customers and credit limit changes within delegated authority
  • Achieve key credit metrics including DSO, overdue balances, credit balances and cash collection %
  • Process daily bank transactions, allocate receipts accurately and minimise unapplied cash
  • Provide clear, meaningful credit and AR reporting to our leadership, commercial and branch teams
  • Maintain accurate customer information, notes and collections activity in our systems
  • Support compliance with relevant legislation (e.g. Commerce Act, Fair Trading Act, Privacy Act) and keep our credit policy and procedures up to date
  • Contribute to change initiatives that improve our processes and make things easier for our people and customers

You’ll enjoy working with people, solving problems and creating calm, well‑organised systems around you. We’re looking for someone who can offer:

  • Credit / AR experience in a high‑volume, national corporate environment
  • Strong numerical and IT skills, including confidence with Excel and financial systems (ideally JDE)
  • A good working knowledge of the current legal framework relevant to credit and trade practices
  • Experience in construction, distribution or manufacturing is helpful, but not essential
  • An independent, proactive working style with a collaborative approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, with a calm, respectful approach to negotiation
  • The ability to plan, prioritise and follow through, even when things are busy
  • A continuous‑improvement mindset – you’re curious about better ways of working and happy to share ideas

At Humes and across Fletcher Building, we value integrity, humility, service, and putting our customers at the heart of what we do. We’re committed to creating a safe, inclusive workplace where everyone feels they belong and can do their best work, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.
