Description

Fletcher Construction has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Advisor to join our team for Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi (Te Awa Kairangi).

About the Role

As a Senior Environmental Advisor, you’ll play a key leadership role in ensuring our project meets all environmental and statutory requirements. You’ll provide senior‑level guidance to the project team, influence environmental decision‑making, and help uplift capability across the Alliance.

  • Provide expert advice to construction teams, supervisors, subcontractors and specialists to champion best‑practice environmental performance.
  • Lead environmental inspections, audits and site walks across varied site conditions and multiple work fronts.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring programmes (noise, vibration, water quality, dust), which may include occasional evening, night or weekend monitoring.
  • Provide senior oversight of erosion and sediment control—certifying measures, directing stabilisation works, and ensuring alignment with management plans.
  • Support, mentor and build capability within the environmental team and broader project teams.
  • Lead toolbox talks, inductions and targeted coaching to uplift environmental understanding and behaviours.
  • Oversee environmental compliance documentation, reporting, and updates to management plans.
  • Support strategic initiatives to improve environmental performance, streamline processes, and contribute to project sustainability objectives (including ISC rating requirements).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with iwi partners, regulatory agencies, and technical specialists.

What you’ll bring to the role

You’ll bring a strong mix of technical expertise, practical site experience, and the ability to influence and guide others.

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant environmental discipline.
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience with exposure to environmental effects associated with civil construction.
  • Proven ability to influence and engage at all levels — from specialists to crews on site.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence providing direction, coaching and feedback.
  • Solid working knowledge of erosion & sediment control, monitoring, ecology, land management or related technical areas.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach and the ability to lead senior‑level conversations.
  • The confidence to translate environmental requirements into clear, practical on‑site actions.
  • A passion for improving environmental outcomes and helping others succeed.

About Us

We pride ourselves on safely delivering a wide variety of construction and infrastructure projects for the people of New Zealand and the South Pacific. But our power is not in what we do, it’s in who we are. We are a team of 3,700 people working under three brands: Fletcher Construction, Higgins, and Brian Perry Civil. We may be a big team, but we haven’t lost sight of what really matters: looking after our people.

We recognise that treating our people well is only partially about what happens during work hours. It’s also about the impact we have outside of work hours too. That’s why we have incredible learning and development opportunities for staff and their families, industry-leading parental leave, support systems and generous corporate discounts.
