As we focus on the growth and expansion of our Australian businesses and 5,600+ employees, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal function.


This 12-month Fixed Term Contract forms part of the central legal support function to the Fletcher Building Australian Division and its Australian based businesses. You will be part of an experienced, integrated and collaborative team, as the primary legal advisor for two large businesses based in Melbourne being Laminex, a leader in decorative surfaces in Australia and Fletcher Insulation, a leading insulation manufacturer.

The role requires a senior in-house legal counsel with demonstrated experience in commercial law. The role will involve reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on competition & commercial law matters, advising on product liability claims and consumer law obligations; business acquisition/disposals, managing various disputes and litigation, legal opinions and practical advice to the businesses on changes in law and legislation. 

The position reports directly to the General Counsel of the Australian Division, will require collaboration across the legal function and may require limited interstate and trans-Tasman travel.

To be successful in this role you will have: 
  • At least 8 years’ Post Qualification Experience 
  • Significant commercial law experience - essential
  • Product liability and consumer law experience - desirable
  • Experience managing commercial disputes and litigation - desirable
  • Experience managing safety and other investigations, WHS incidents and claims - desirable
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management and relationship building  - essential
  • A team player mindset who can work across businesses and within the legal team - essential
