About us
The Fletcher Building family is a community made up of people who use all their experience, skills and individuality to do amazing work. We are listed on both the NZX and ASX, and have some 30 businesses across New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific.

Fletcher Building has a centrally led in-house legal function as the primary source of legal support to the whole Group.  The legal team prides itself on being forward looking, practical advisors to the Fletcher Building businesses, continually looking to add value above and beyond traditional legal advice.

About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced construction lawyer to join our in-house legal team.  Reporting to the General Counsel – Construction, you’ll be responsible for providing legal advice and support to our Construction division.  Fletcher Construction delivers iconic projects and critical infrastructure in New Zealand and the Pacific; it comprises three brands - Fletcher Construction, Higgins and Brian Perry Civil.

You’ll build trusted relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to provide practical commercial advice to the businesses, to achieve positive commercial outcomes and solutions for legal problems. You will produce high quality legal work which will require you to generate a deep understanding of the drivers, strategies and business plans of the businesses with which you will primarily work.

This role requires experience in front-end construction contract negotiation, with construction disputes experience and an interest in working on front-end construction matters also relevant.  This is a fast-paced role where you work on a diverse range of construction matters, including strategic and contractual advice for Fletcher Construction’s front-end construction activity, supporting our Projects with the procurement and change management during the construction phase, through to advising on the resolution of commercial and contractual issues that arise.  While the role is weighted towards front end construction activity, there is some opportunity to partially scope the role to align to a person’s skillset, experience and career aspirations.

About you
You’ll be a qualified Construction Lawyer with a current NZ practising certificate. This will be coupled with 6 -10+ years’ post-admission experience gained in a reputable law firm or in a similar in-house role.  Excellent construction contracts law knowledge and experience in reviewing, negotiating and drafting contracts is a must, with Construction dispute resolution experience is also relevant.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships of trust and confidence at all levels of the business will see you succeed in this role, as will your ability to apply a commercial lens to everything you do.

Next steps
You'll be joining a highly talented, highly driven legal team who are passionate about their work, with a strong leadership team who are focused on retaining and developing high performers.  If this sounds like you, please apply today or contact Mereula Nacewa, Corporate Talent Acquisition Manager on 021 727 166 for more info.
