Description

Fletcher Building is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to provide legal advice and support to our Australian business units. This is an exciting opportunity to work on diverse and complex matters in a fast-paced environment.


About the Role:

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will:

  • Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice to support Fletcher Building’s Australian operations.
  • Work independently on matters with measurable business impact, including contract negotiation, disputes, and strategic projects.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts and legal documents.
  • Manage legal risk and compliance, including health, safety, and environmental matters.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and influence decision-making.
  • Manage external legal providers and monitor legal spend within agreed budgets.


About you:

  • Qualified lawyer with an Australian practising certificate (or eligibility to hold one).
  • 7–10 years’ experience in commercial law, with strong competition and consumer law expertise.
  • Ability to provide pragmatic, commercially sound legal advice in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Previous in-house experience is preferred but not essential.
  • A proactive, positive, and team-oriented approach.
