Description

Looking for a role where you can take on complex challenges, grow your skills, and be part of something bigger? At Brian Perry Civil, we’re shaping careers, communities, and the future of NZ infrastructure - this is your chance to make a real impact.

About the Role

Brian Perry Civil is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support our upcoming project to construct the Second Ashburton Bridge (2AB) on behalf of NZTA.

The 2AB project will deliver a new bridge across the Hakatere/Ashburton River and a 2.9 km link road connecting Ashburton to Tinwald via rural farmland, aimed at improving transport connectivity and resilience. It includes two bridge structures (360 m and 60 m), road upgrades, greenfield construction, stormwater infrastructure, a box culvert over Carters Creek, and realignment of local drains and trails. Located 800 m downstream of the existing SH1 bridge, the project spans residential, rural, and conservation zones, with construction involving earthworks, vegetation clearance, and water management.

This is a fixed term role through to end of August 2027.

  • Lead engineering planning to keep the programme on track.
  • Coordinate works, resources and subcontractors to ensure smooth delivery across the project.
  • Support and coach engineers and supervisors, providing steady guidance and clear expectations.
  • Oversee quality, environmental and safety processes to ensure work meets required standards.
  • Monitor risk, costs and progress, contributing to accurate reporting and project forecasting.
  • Build constructive working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal teams.

What You’ll Bring

  • A relevant engineering qualification and solid experience in large or complex civil projects.
  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods and the ability to apply practical solutions.
  • Confidence leading and supporting teams, with a calm and inclusive communication style.
  • Strength in planning, coordination and prioritising work in a dynamic environment.
  • Sound judgement around cost, programme, quality and risk.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work constructively with a wide range of people.
  • Resilience, initiative, and the ability to navigate ambiguity with clarity
