Description

Higgins have an opportunity for a Specialist Operator to join our team working on the Waikato District Council northern road maintenance and renewals contract. The contract covers North Waikato from Huntly to Pōkeno and includes maintenance of a comprehensive network of approximately 1200km of sealed and unsealed roads including rural and coastal areas.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Operating a variety of civil and roading plant including excavators (1–20 tonne), rollers, and loaders.
  • Carry out stabilised pavement repairs, dig outs, drainage work, concrete works, slip repairs, and minor earthworks.
  • Support your crew on site, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Assist with planning daily tasks and coordinating resources.
  • Be available for on-call roster and respond to call-outs within 60 minutes.

What You’ll Bring
  • Appropriate licences (Class 4 + WTR)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in road construction and machinery operation
  • Proven ability to support and motivate a team
  • Willingness to be hands-on and support a variety of tasks
  • Familiarity with RAMM (beneficial)
  • Strong focus on health and safety – for yourself, your team, and the public
  • Reliable, honest, and a team player who leads from the front
