Description

We are looking for an experienced Surfacing Manager to join the Higgins Wellington Region. With a strong pipeline of work, we need a leader who can successfully drive the bidding and delivery of surfacing projects and contracts.

You will play a key role in the Wellington leadership team, overseeing all Surfacing branch functions including asphalt production, project and contract management, and overall commercial performance.

Your responsibilities will include client liaison, work programming, budget control, procurement, and project management, all while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, company policies, procedures, and industry best practices.

What you will bring to the role:
  • A strong technical background in surfacing projects and contracts is essential, ideally complemented by leadership experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of aggregates and surfacing materials (hot mix and chip-sealing), along with a technical understanding of their applications
  • Chipseal experience would be looked upon very favourably
  • Proven experience in delivering surfacing projects up to $10 million
  • Expertise in tendering and pricing surfacing projects—you are commercially and financially astute.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a proven ability to build lasting relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience managing direct reports, with a focus on coaching and influencing.
  • Highly detail-oriented and well-organised, you can efficiently prioritise, coordinate, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A Civil Engineering or Business qualification is essential.
