About the Role
This is a true lead and deliver role where you’ll balance strategy, stakeholder engagement and operational execution. Reporting to the Technical & Development Manager, you'll lead Winstone Wallboards' sustainability and circular economy agenda, driving initiatives that deliver real environmental and commercial outcomes. From building a plasterboard takeback scheme to influencing industry stakeholders and supporting Fletcher Building's climate commitments, this is a role where you'll make a visible impact. 

Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the development and delivery of a North Island plasterboard takeback and product stewardship scheme. 
  • Building and manage strong relationships with councils, government agencies, industry partners, customers, merchants and waste recovery operators. 
  • Driving sustainability strategy and translating it in to practical, measurable business outcomes. 
  • Provide reporting and insights to Winstone Wallboards Senior Leadership Team as well as supporting Fletcher Building reporting requirements and broader decarbonisation objectives. 
  • Identifying commercial opportunities through circular economy, resource recovery and waste reduction programmes.
  • Managing sustainability certifications, audits, reporting frameworks and environmental performance metrics.

About You
We’re looking for a capable and influential sustainability professional who can work comfortably across boardrooms, manufacturing environments and external stakeholder groups. You’ll bring:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification e.g. environmental science, or engineering) with minimum 5 years’ experience in a sustainability role, ideally with exposure to building products or construction industry.
  • Proven experience delivering of complex, multi-stakeholder programmes from concept through to implementation.
  • Experience engaging with councils, government agencies, regulators and industry partners. 
  • Knowledge of New Zealand sustainability, climate and waste minimisation frameworks. 
  • Familiarity with environmental certifications, audits and regulatory requirements.
  • A practical, highly organised, delivery-focused approach with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including business case development, funding models and financial accountability.
