About the role
The Group Tax team act as an Internal Advisory function to the NZ and Australian business units and corporate teams within Fletcher Building.  Their aim is to maintain a reputation as “a leading, cutting edge, outcome focused team”, and to deliver to 4 main pillars – Risk, Value, Efficiency and Shareholders. 

Due to an internal promotion, we have a fantastic opportunity for an Australian Tax Compliance Manager to support the Tax Manager Australia in delivering on these pillars across the Fletcher Building Australian division.  You’ll be based in North Sydney (but with flexible hybrid working options available). 

Responsibilities:
  • Assist Australian business units in the Year-end / Half year Hyperion reporting and tax accounting processes including communication with BU’s / instructions / review of specific balances and tax accounting treatments. 
  • Prepare the prior period adjustments schedule and assist business units in their Hyperion treatment on lodgement of the tax return.
  • Support Group Finance in respect of the preparation of the annual statutory and audited financial statements of FBA Consolidated Group.
  • Coordinate the annual income tax compliance process, including reviewing tax calculations prepared by business unit finance teams and assist teams to improve their systems processes and procedures in relation to the completion of their income tax returns.  
  • Work with the Tax Manager Australia to manage incremental improvements to the processes relating to the Tax Software package used for income tax and FBT.
  • Coordinate the FBT compliance process.
  • Coordinate the monthly GST BAS, including reviewing BAS calculations prepared by business unit finance teams and completion of the AUS Consolidation packs.
  • Develop appropriate processes and controls for GST compliance and the assurance of underlying core data and processes.
  • Assist the Tax Manager Australia in reviewing specific BU / jurisdictional tax positions as required to ensure that their tax treatments are correct and accounted for appropriately.

About you
To be considered, you’ll hold a relevant tertiary qualification, be CA qualified (or international equivalent) with c. 5 years + demonstrated relevant tax experience. This will include strong knowledge of Australian corporate taxes including income tax, GST and FBT legislation. Critical to your success will be your exceptional stakeholder management skills, high numerical understanding, attention to detail, proven ability to communicate complex ideas to a diverse audience and and your ability to juggle competing priorities and re-prioritise when required.
