Description

The Role
Looking to build a career in the construction industry? As a Trainee Detailer, you’ll be trained to turn architectural and engineering plans into precise Frame & Truss designs that help bring Kiwi homes and buildings to life.
You’ll work closely with experienced Detailers, Production teams, and customers to ensure every design is accurate, compliant, and buildable. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain technical skills, industry knowledge, and a pathway into a long-term career with PlaceMakers and the wider Fletcher Building Group.

Your day-to-day will include:
• Learning to read and interpret architectural, engineering, and consent plans
• Using Mitek 20/20 and Sapphire software to create Frame & Truss layouts
• Supporting internal teams and customers with technical queries
• Ensuring all detailing meets NZ building codes and standards (NZS3604)
• Helping resolve remedial issues and contributing to continuous improvement
• Accurately processing and storing job documentation

This is a full-time, permanent role, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

About You
Your detail-oriented, eager to learn, and ready to take on a technical role in a supportive team environment. Whether you’re a builder looking to move off the tools, someone with a background in design or construction, or simply passionate about the building industry — we’ll provide the training and support you need to succeed.

We’re looking for someone with:
• A can-do attitude and willingness to learn
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Basic computer literacy (experience with AutoCAD or similar is a bonus)
• An interest in construction, architecture, or design
• Customer-focused mindset and ability to work well in a team
• Experience with building products or codes (advantageous but not essential)
