About Us

Fletcher Living has a long history and a strong commitment to providing quality new homes for New Zealanders. As one of New Zealand’s leading residential developers and builders, the Fletcher Residential and Land Development Division has been an integral part of the Fletcher Building family for over 110 years. Our reputation hasn’t grown overnight, James Fletcher built his first weatherboard home in Dunedin in 1909 and the home still stands proud today, an ever-present statement of our craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Why Join Us?

It’s an exciting time to be part of the booming residential construction sector. We’re a high performing business and are proud to say that we have a highly engaged and successful team. We have a fantastic people culture and encourage everyone to bring their full and genuine selves to work. Our workplaces are enriched by many different nationalities, languages, religions, customs and lifestyles. We’re proud of this diversity and understand that it brings a richer and broader perspective to how we operate by helping us connect better with our people and with our customer base.

The Role

The role is based at our Christchurch branch, which oversees a variety of communities we’re developing around Canterbury. The position focuses on learning the trade from the bottom up which means being fully trained in our internal QS System and processes and assisting the Quantity Surveyors in things like: preparing accurate estimates/budgets, detailed take offs from plans, building and issuing of PO orders, deriving cost reports, checking progress claims and works on site, preparing and assessing tenders and quotes, working alongside other project team members to achieve positive outcomes - the role offers a great variety.

You will be working closely with the whole QS team including the Senior QS (who you will report into), as well as the wider branch team in Sales, Design and Construction. In time, you will be given your own Residential projects to manage once you have mastered the skills you need to feel confident in doing so. The majority of this role is office-based, but we will encourage you to go out with the other QS’s to their sites as much as possible to help build your knowledge of the whole construction process!

About You

We’re looking for someone who has completed a Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying and/or has building industry experience and has a genuine interest in learning the trade. You will need to have a passionate, reliable, positive, can-do attitude, strong interpersonal and communication skills and excellent computer skills (experience in Microsoft Excel and Cost X would be ideal). Previous experience in Estimating or Quantity Surveying would be an advantage, but not essential. Although you may have come from a different background, you must now have a passion for Residential construction and learning everything there is to know about it!

Benefits

Our Christchurch office offers a fun and relaxed environment and has plenty of experienced people for you to learn from. Along with providing a competitive salary and excellent incentive scheme, this role will offer in-depth training, and clear career progression and goals. You will be encouraged to share ideas and will have the opportunity to get involved in activities outside of a traditional QS role, such as Health & Safety, and building relationships with the Construction team on site. And, of course, you’ll also get to enjoy the security, benefits and recognition that come with working for a well-respected business unit within the Fletcher Building Group.

Application Process

Applications should be made by submitting a CV and cover letter outlining your interest, motivation and what you would bring to this role by way of background, experience and fit for the role and our team.  Please apply online.
