  • Category:Construction/Technical
  • Business Group:Winstone Aggregates
  • Location:Auckland
  • Job Reference:WIN/15420
  • Closing Date:20 Mar 2020

Description:

Due to rapid growth, a very rare opportunity to join the Winstone Aggregates’ lab team has been created at Hunua Quarry. Lab work in a quarry may not be what you’re imagining. You don’t need a white coat or a science degree, but common sense will take you far in this role. The product you’re assessing is what goes into construction and infrastructure projects throughout the region. Lab techs have a significant input into the roads you drive on, new buildings, housing developments, and stadiums. You can be a part of it too, in an environment where you really do get to see the results of your work.

The Concrete Division comprises Fletcher Building’s aggregate, cement and concrete businesses, employing over 1300 people across three business units. Winstone Aggregates is 150 years old and the largest supplier of sand and aggregate in New Zealand.

Your goal is to identify and assess the quality of the aggregate we produce. There’s a variety of tests you conduct to test strength, measure size and make up. You will also get to travel to other quarries for sampling in locations such as; north Waikato, Wellsford, and Whangarei. Hours of work are 7.30am – 5pm Monday to Friday with Saturdays when required. With the nature of the construction industry, there does need to be some flexibility with these hours.

This lab tech role is an excellent development opportunity, whether you’ve done the role before or not. We enjoy up skiling our staff to help them excel; whether that’s training you up in all types of testing, so you become an expert in the field, promoting you through the ranks, facilitating a move to a quarry operator role, or helping you gain skills to move into another area.

To be successful for this role you will need to have:
  • A full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • Health and safety awareness
  • Be physically fit
  • Able to lift 25kg
  • Right to work in New Zealand
You’ll need to be a good listener and more than anything, able to follow testing instructions.

In return we’ll offer you:
  • Fletcher Building staff benefits such as staff purchasing, fuel discounts and access to the employee education fund
  • A guaranteed 40 hour week
  • Career advancement opportunities
  • A great team environment
This team of eight is looking forward to having its newest member join them. If you’re friendly, an excellent communicator, and reliable; you could be the perfect fit.
