Description

At Firth, we’re proud to help build communities right across Aotearoa.

We’re looking for an engaging and collaborative EHS Business Partner to join our national EHS team. In this role, you’ll lead health, safety, environment and wellbeing support across our Lower North Island & Upper South Island Firth plants, working closely with our Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, other Regional EHS Business Partners and plant leaders.

We’re focused on finding the right person to lead EHS across this region, and we’re open to the role being based in either Palmerston North or the Wellington area. What matters most is your ability to build strong relationships across our sites, provide confident leadership, and drive a proactive safety culture.

You’ll play an important part in bringing our EHS roadmap to life – helping our people stay safe, supported and informed, and contributing to a culture where everyone feels confident to speak up and look out for one another.

In this varied and people-focused role, you will:
  • Lead implementation and ongoing delivery of health, safety, environment and wellbeing initiatives and key EHS projects across the region.
  • Constructively & collaboratively work with the wider EHS team to develop, implement and facilitate the delivery of best practice EHS programs and projects.
  • Provide guidance to plant leaders on health, safety and environmental compliance, systems, and documentation, enabling consistent and high‑quality standards across all sites.
  • Assist to compile and coordinate EHS reporting, analysing data and haring insights that support safer ways of working across the business
  • Oversee induction, onboarding and training processes in your region, ensuring team members receive clear and engaging EHS training.
  • Lead Healthy Work and Fit for Work programmes, promoting both physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Ensure contractor management systems (including permit-to-work) are fit for purpose, implemented across the region and that records are kept up to date.
  • Drive audit programmes, incident investigations (including ICAM), and change processes, working collaboratively with leaders to identify risks, implement improvements, and strengthen operational resilience.
  • Partner with our People & Performance team on initiatives where EHS is a key focus (e.g. Sonder rollout, Safe Work).
We’re keen to connect with someone who enjoys building relationships, communicates with warmth and clarity, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a supportive team. You will ideally have:
  • A formal Health & Safety qualification.
  • Experience in an HSE advisory, consulting or similar role, preferably in an office or multi-site environment.
  • Experience leading projects and rolling out initiatives.
  • Confidence developing or delivering training and contributing to policies or procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with a genuine customer service mindset.
  • Strong organisation and time management skills, attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
  • The ability to gently influence and coach others, and to adapt your style to different people and situations.
  • An understanding of ACC / workers compensation claims processes (or a willingness to learn).

At Firth, you’ll be part of a down-to-earth, inclusive team that genuinely cares about safety, wellbeing and doing the right thing. You’ll enjoy:
  • The chance to make a meaningful difference to the everyday safety and wellbeing of our people.
  • Supportive leaders who encourage growth, learning and fresh ideas.
  • Opportunities to work across a nationwide business with a strong, stable presence in New Zealand’s building and infrastructure sector.
