Description

Golden Bay Cement is seeking a skilled Section Engineer to join our team at the Portland site, Whangarei.

This role is responsible for programming, coordinating, supervising, and carrying out all planned and unplanned mechanical maintenance activities.

The Section Engineer works closely with Shift Fitters and other teams to analyse trends, address faults, and implement action plans that support reliability, efficiency, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver planned and unplanned mechanical maintenance, ensuring HS&E targets are met or exceeded
  • Analyse trends and faults, identifying root causes and implementing solutions to improve reliability and reduce repetitive failures
  • Lead and participate in the development of mechanical capital projects and improvement plans
  • Prepare and monitor annual operating and capital budgets for assigned sections and projects
  • Oversee maintenance deployment, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with mechanical maintenance SOPs and Golden Bay Cement’s HS&E policies
  • Collaborate with internal teams
  • Liaise with external suppliers for spares, equipment, and technical advice

About You
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance and Condition, or Fitting and Tuning (NQF Level 4)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in complex manufacturing environments
  • Strong technical skills in maintenance systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, equipment and machinery, welding techniques, and health & safety standards
  • Ability to interpret drawings and apply safety, health, and environmental legislation

Desirable attributes include:
  • Experience in the cement industry
  • Skills in cement manufacturing processes, project management, planning tools, budgeting, management control, drafting techniques, and CAD software
