Description

Are you someone who loves being out on construction sites, solving problems in real time, and working with crews in all conditions? Want a role where no two days look the same and where your work directly shapes the environmental performance of a major project?

Fletcher Construction has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Advisor/Senior Environmental Advisor to join our team for Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi (Te Awa Kairangi).

About the Role

In this key role, you’ll ensure our project meets environmental and statutory requirements. You’ll work closely with construction teams and specialists to champion best‑practice environmental performance.

  • Carry out environmental inspections, audits and site walks across all weather conditions and work fronts.
  • Monitor noise, vibration, water quality, dust and other project requirements — including some evening, night or occasional weekend monitoring.
  • Support erosion & sediment control: certifying measures, checking stabilisation, and ensuring controls match management plans.
  • Work closely with supervisors, construction teams and subcontractors to build capability, give guidance, and uplift environmental performance.
  • Run toolbox talks, inductions and informal coaching to help everyone understand our environmental expectations.
  • Coordinate external suppliers (e.g., hydroseeding, dust suppression, monitoring providers).
  • Manage paperwork, reporting, compliance documentation and updates to management plans.
  • Help streamline processes and improve environmental performance across the Alliance.

What you’ll bring to the role

You’ll bring a practical mindset, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for the environment and sustainability.

We’re open to receive applications from a variety of backgrounds, including:
Environmental science, engineering, planning or consenting roles with on-site exposure as well as Site Engineers looking to shift into an environmental career pathway.

To succeed, you will:

  • Enjoy being on construction sites, building rapport and working closely with crews
  • Be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Translate environmental requirements into clear, practical on‑site actions
  • Communicate confidently across all levels — educating, guiding and influencing
  • Have some relevant technical understanding (e.g., erosion & sediment control, monitoring, ecology, land management)
  • Bring the right attitude, curiosity and willingness to learn

About Us

We pride ourselves on safely delivering a wide variety of construction and infrastructure projects for the people of New Zealand and the South Pacific. But our power is not in what we do, it’s in who we are. We are a team of 3,700 people working under three brands: Fletcher Construction, Higgins, and Brian Perry Civil. We may be a big team, but we haven’t lost sight of what really matters: looking after our people.

We recognise that treating our people well is only partially about what happens during work hours. It’s also about the impact we have outside of work hours too. That’s why we have incredible learning and development opportunities for staff and their families, industry-leading parental leave, support systems and generous corporate discounts.
