Description

Firth has been part of Aotearoa’s building landscape for generations. As New Zealand’s leading provider of ready-mix concrete, masonry products, and Dricon® solutions, we’re proud to support communities through safe, reliable, and sustainable construction materials.

We are looking for a supportive and people‑centred leader.

The Area Operations and Sales Manager will guide our Hawkes Bay & Gisborne operations and nurture strong relationships with our customers and teams.

Why join Firth
  • Inclusive, team‑focused culture where your wellbeing and development are genuinely valued.
  • Opportunities to shape operational and cultural improvements across the region.
  • Backing and stability of the wider Fletcher Building Group.
  • Meaningful work that directly contributes to local communities.
  • Career pathways, ongoing training, and a commitment to your growth.

In this role, you will lead both operational and sales activity across the region, creating a warm, safe, and high‑performing environment. Key responsibilities include:

People & Culture
  • Supporting and developing team members, ensuring they feel informed, encouraged, and able to grow.
  • Fostering a positive culture that encourages collaboration, planning, and continuous improvement.
  • Leading performance, development planning, and succession conversations.
Operational Leadership
  • Ensuring operations run smoothly and safely, with a gentle but clear focus on wellbeing, environmental care, and compliance.
  • Monitoring performance, reviewing KPIs, and supporting teams to achieve sustainable results.
  • Coordinating with Materials, Plant, Laboratory, and Customer Service teams to meet production and service expectations.
  • Customer & Market Focus
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with customers and ensuring every interaction reflects our commitment to service excellence.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement, growth, and retention within the region.
Financial & Strategic Contribution
  • Supporting the achievement of planned financial outcomes through thoughtful planning and decision‑making.
  • Contributing to regional strategy and ensuring area plans align with wider business goals.
We welcome applicants who enjoy enabling others to succeed and take a calm, solutions‑focused approach to leadership.

You’ll bring:
  • Experience in light manufacturing or distribution operations.
  • Confidence with budgeting, operational planning, and P&L ownership.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to listen deeply, communicate clearly, and build supportive relationships.
  • A thoughtful approach to decision‑making and prioritisation.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, fast‑moving environment while maintaining a steady, empathetic leadership style.
