Description

Golden Bay is a proud part of New Zealand’s building history, supplying cement that has supported communities and infrastructure projects for over 100 years. As part of Fletcher Building, Golden Bay combines heritage with innovation – creating a workplace where people are supported to learn, contribute, and make a meaningful impact.

We’re looking for a collaborative and proactive Section Electrician to join our Portland team, helping to keep our operations safe, reliable, and continuously improving.

About the Role

This is a hands-on and coordination-focused role where you’ll work closely with production and maintenance teams to plan, support, and deliver electrical maintenance activities. You’ll play an important part in creating a safe environment, identifying improvements, and supporting the team to achieve shared outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

·       Coordinating and carrying out planned and reactive electrical maintenance

·       Supporting and guiding Process Electricians to achieve quality outcomes

·       Contributing to maintenance planning, scheduling, and shutdown preparation

·       Identifying opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and optimise costs

·       Supporting capital projects from planning through to commissioning

·       Monitoring trends, identifying root causes, and helping implement improvements

·       Building strong working relationships across production, engineering, and suppliers

·       Upholding health, safety, and environmental standards in everything you do

What You’ll Bring

We’re open to a range of backgrounds, and we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet everything listed.

Essential:

·       Registered Electrician with a current practising licence

·       Trade qualification in Electrical Engineering (Level 5–7)

·       Experience in a complex manufacturing or heavy industry environment

·       Confidence working with maintenance systems, drawings, and electrical equipment

·       A strong commitment to safety and teamwork

Desirable:

·       Experience within cement or heavy industrial processing

·       Exposure to project work, planning, or budgeting

·       Knowledge of control systems, CAD, or continuous improvement tools

Why Join Golden Bay?

·       Be part of a supportive, experienced team that values collaboration and shared success

·       Opportunities to grow your skills and contribute to meaningful projects

·       A workplace that prioritises health, safety, and wellbeing

·       Access to Fletcher Building benefits and career pathways across the group

·       Stable, long-term work in a well-established organisation

Our Approach

At Golden Bay, we value curiosity, care, and contribution. We know great teams are built on trust, inclusion, and diverse perspectives – and we welcome people who bring their whole selves to work.

Apply now to be part of a team where your ideas, experience, and voice will truly count.

Research shows that females and minority groups don’t apply for roles unless they match 100% the job description.

We are proud of your diversity and see it as one of the things that make us stronger. We welcome your individuality and encourage you to bring your true self to work, so if this role is of interest but you feel you don’t fit it, we would still love you to apply.
