Description

Are you ready to shape the commercial direction of a significant alliance programme?

Fletcher Construction is seeking an exceptional Commercial Manager to play a pivotal leadership role on Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi (Te Awa Kairangi) a transformative infrastructure alliance that will help redefine the region’s transport and resilience.

About the Role

This is a core Alliance Management Team role, with accountability across commercial performance, procurement strategy, and financial governance.  Reporting to the Alliance Director, you will lead a team and operate as a trusted advisor at the highest levels of the alliance, influencing decision-making across partners, board, and client stakeholders.

This is a role for a leader who is equally comfortable in the detail and in the boardroom, someone who understands alliance dynamics, can navigate complexity, and can drive commercial outcomes in a fully integrated delivery environment.

  • Owning all commercial obligations under the Project Alliance Agreement, including variations, claims, disputes, insurance, and legal matters
  • Establishing and continuously evolving best-in-class cost control, procurement, and financial systems across the alliance
  • Leading monthly claims, protecting entitlement positions, and ensuring full commercial recovery
  • Shaping and executing procurement strategy, including major work packages, supply chain engagement, and internal Fletcher agreements
  • Providing commercial and financial insight to the Alliance Management Team, Project Alliance Board, and partner organisations
  • Building, leading, and developing a high-performing, multi-disciplinary commercial team

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, supported by extensive experience in civil infrastructure
  • At least 10 years operating at senior commercial leadership level
  • Deep experience in alliance or joint venture environments, with a practical understanding of how these models operate and succeed
  • Proven ability to manage programme-scale budgets, complex contracts, and sophisticated commercial risk
  • Strength in procurement leadership, subcontractor strategy, and supply chain performance
  • A track record of building and leading high-performing teams in complex, high-pressure delivery environments
  • The credibility and presence to influence at board, client, and partner level

About Te Awa Kairangi

Te Awa Kairangi Alliance is delivering transport, walking and cycling improvements to the SH2 Melling interchange and rail station, as part of a wider flood protection and city revitalisation programme.   Fletcher Construction is working with Alliance partners AECOM, NZTA, Taranaki Whānui and Ngāti Toa Rangatira to deliver this transformative project.
