The Civil–Concrete team at Higgins Wellington is growing, and we’re looking for motivated Labourers to join us. If you enjoy hands on work, being part of a tight knit crew, and contributing to meaningful civil construction projects across the region, this is a great opportunity to build your career in the industry.

As a Labourer, you’ll support the delivery of civil and concrete works by carrying out general labouring, site preparation, and construction support tasks. You’ll work alongside experienced operators, forepersons, and traffic teams to help deliver safe, high quality outcomes on every job.

What you’ll be doing
  • Assisting with civil and concrete construction activities including excavation support, backfilling, spreading, compacting, and concrete preparation 
  • Performing general labouring tasks such as shovelling, sweeping, raking, lifting, and carrying materials 
  • Preparing work areas, protecting assets, and helping set up and pack down sites 
  • Supporting mobile plant operations by acting as a spotter when trained and authorised 
  • Operating small tools and equipment safely (where trained) 
  • Completing basic pre start checks on small plant and equipment 
  • Maintaining tidy, well organised work areas
  • Following Work Plans, JSEA’s, and Supervisor instructions to ensure quality outcomes 
  • Assisting with environmental controls, spill response, and site clean ups 
  • Working cooperatively with your crew and supporting other teams when required 
  • Always following Higgins’ health, safety, and environmental processes and wearing required PPE

What you’ll bring
  • A positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn 
  • Experience with a kerb machine (extruded and cast in-stiu) is a plus.
  • Ability to perform manual labour tasks and work safely around plant and machinery • Experience in civil construction or roading labouring (desirable but not essential) 
  • Understanding of safe working practices on construction sites 
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team 
  • Class 1 Driver Licence (required) 
  • Site Safe Passport, TTM Awareness/TC Basic, or First Aid (desirable)
